Researching your Ditchling roots?

We are always pleased to help people tracing a Ditchling connection. We cannot promise to do all the research for you, but we will gladly search our database and resource material to see what we hold and point you in the right direction.

Our records run to more than 28,000 entries, covering families, houses, the churchyard, the war memorial and village life across the centuries. Tell us what you are looking for, with any names, dates or addresses you already have, and we will take it from there.

Or come and see us at a drop-in session: The White Horse, 16 West Street, Ditchling, BN6 8TS, on the second Wednesday of each month, 2.00 to 5.00 pm.

Evidence is always partial. Facts are not truth… information is not knowledge. And history is not the past – it is the method we have evolved of organising our ignorance of the past… It’s what’s left in the sieve when the centuries have run through it – a few stones, scraps of writing, scraps of cloth.
